The "Ankara Drinking Water 2nd Stage Project Gerede System", which has been feeding the Çamlıdere Dam since 2020 in order to meet the drinking water needs of the capital, was discussed with all its details.
The evaluation meeting on the functioning of the system and the field trip where on-site inspection was carried out by the technical teams; ASKİ General Manager Erdoğan Öztürk, State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) Deputy General Manager Şadiye Yalçın, ASKİ Planning Coordination and Foreign Relations Department Head Muhammed Ercan, Dam Operation and Machinery Supply Department Head İlker Arslan, DSİ Drinking Water Department Head Kemal Köseoğlu and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Turkey Office Head Nobuhiro Ikuro, Vice President Jun Yamazaki and experts.

WHY IS THE GEREDE SYSTEM IMPORTANT?

At the meeting held at DSI, where it was stated that the Capital had undertaken a great work on water supply at a time when Turkey was a country experiencing water stress and had problems with water resources, it was stated that "Ankara, which is Ankara's long-term drinking water guarantee during the global warming process, " The importance of the “Gerede System of Drinking Water 2nd Stage Project” was emphasized.
The business model and financing processes of the proposed new projects were also evaluated at the meeting, in which all aspects of the system, which started to be taken in January last year and which has delivered a total of 323 million cubic meters of water to Çamlıdere Dam, were discussed.

IT CAN MEET THE CAPITAL'S ANNUAL 226 MILLION CUBIC METERS OF WATER

While the Işıklı Regulator, Gerede Tunnel and Çamlıdere Dam, where the Gerede Water Supply System started, were inspected, ASKİ Planning and Coordination Department Head Muhammed Ercan stated that 226 million cubic meters of water can be taken annually from the Gerede System and gave the following information: “The Gerede System is of great importance for Ankara's quality drinking water supply. With a length of 31.5 kilometers and a diameter of 4.5 meters, the Gerede Tunnel includes Turkey's longest and the world's number one water transmission tunnel. The water supplied from the Işıklı Regulator built on the Ulusu Stream in the Gerede basin, which is the water source of the project, is transmitted to our Çamlıdere Dam, which has a water capacity of 1 billion 220 million cubic meters, via the Gerede Tunnel without consuming any energy. We plan to transfer 94 percent of natural water through the system, and we have delivered over 323 million cubic meters of water to Ankara since the project.”
